Eikendal Weintaufe is an annual Cape jollification loved by young and old, celebrating the End of Harvest each summer.
The Stellenbosch winelands get their carnival on when Eikendal Vineyards celebrates the end of harvest with a farm-style Weintaufe jol on Sunday, 4 March 2018.
The Eikendal Weintaufe is a summer tradition in the winelands with exceptional wine, pop-up food stalls, grape stomping, lucky draws, performing artists, a visit by the tame cheetahs, tractor rides and golfing challenges.
Not enough for ya?
Then chill under the trees while musicians get you in the mood.
Live music from Newton & Co. and local sensations Ram Entertainers keeps it flowing.
The estate is known as one of the premium wine producers in Stellenbosch and their much-lauded Chardonnay will no doubt steal the show.
Cellarmaster Nico Grobler baptises the latest arrival on the day, then serves it straight from the barrel.
All Eikendal wines will be on sale at the Weintaufe.
These include Eikendal reds, such as the Classique flagship blend and also Eikendal whites, like the award-winning Chardonnay. Sip ‘n’ try their charming rosé and MCC too!
Grub comes from popular estate-based Italian restaurant Cucina di Giovanni.
“This year we want to celebrate our Chardonnay in a big way, so come to our winemaking playground and share in the fruits of our labour. We’re having a Harvest Carnival so you better wear your party hat!” jokes Eikendal Cellarmaster Nico Grobler.
A strong focus on kiddies entertainment so that Mom and Dad can relax at the water’s edge and enjoy the latest vintages on offer.
Besides popcorn, ice cream and cotton candy treats, the little ones can also enjoy arts and crafts.
Entertainment ranges from face painting, balloon animals and popular cookie decorations to clowning around in the jungle gym or on the lawn and a jumping castle, so prepare to receive a few parent-of-the-year hugs.
As is tradition, Eikendal appoints a Godmother of Godfather to join the celebrations and new harvest. This year, they are honoured that the well-known and award-winning radio personality and cookbook author, Martelize Brink, will wear the much-coveted badge.
