Originating in the wine district of Alsace, bakers would test the heat of their wood-fired bread ovens with a bit of flat dough, resulting in a crispy baked, ultra-thin base. Keeping alive the European heritage of the Waibel family, who acquired Constantia Glen in the late 1950s, the tasting room now offers four mouth-watering Flammkuchen options. Served daily, hot from the oven at their tasting room, you will be spoilt for choice. Opt for Classic topped with Alpen Speck, leeks, red onions & chives; Caprese with Buffalo mozzarella, slow roasted tomatoes & basil; Slow Roasted Lamb with roasted tomatoes, peppadew, feta & rocket; or Breakfast Flammkuchen with bacon, boerewors, eggs, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and rocket. Each of these exciting options can be paired with one of Constantia Glenâs elegant, Bordeaux-style wines to enjoy while taking in the wonderful vineyard views from the tasting room.
If you prefer to kick start your day a bit earlier, Constantia Glen also offers a Breakfast Croissant with scrambled egg and a choice of Alpen Speck or Smoked Trout served daily until 12h30. And for something sweet after your wine tasting, try the dessert offerings of creamy Don Pedro, rich CrÚme brûlée or the luxurious Chocolate fondant.
The Flammkuchen is served from 12 noon, except the Breakfast Flammkuchen that is served throughout the day, starting at R150. Desserts are available from R45 and the Breakfast Croissant is available at R85. Wines are available by the glass from R60.
Known for exceptional cool climate Bordeaux-style red and white wines, Constantia Glen is open from Sunday to Friday from 10h00 until 17h00 and on Saturdays from 10h00 until 20h00.
