Until recently I was blissfully unaware of the many gems studding the Constantia Wine Route. More fool me! Luckily the good folks at GC Communications have been keeping me abreast of events and delights along this route, as well as dropping off some wondrous samples of that region’s wines. Happy days!
Steeped in history, Constantia is the oldest wine-producing region in South Africa, dating back to 1685. It is known for producing Bordeaux-style, cool climate premium wines.
Constantia Glen is one of the first estates along the route, just below Constantia Neck, with spectacular views, great wines and gorgeous platters to share. The wine tasting experience ranges from the Classic tasting of five wines at R55 per person, to the Premium tasting that includes all seven of their wines at R80 per person. If you purchase wine to the value of R300, one wine tasting fee will be waived. Constantia Glen is happy to have added a wine and chocolate pairing to their current repertoire of tasting experiences available at the tasting room. You may also enjoy one of the popular Cheese & Charcuterie Platters to accompany the award-winning wines.
They’ve just made some new additions to their summer menu, and just look at what’s on offer there:
Recently released, the Rosemarie & Funa Brut Rosé Méthode Cap Classique is available exclusively at the Constantia Glen tasting room. This vivacious Cap Classique with its striking salmon hue is named after Rosemarie Waibel whose father, Manfred, acquired Constantia Glen in the late 1950s, and her beloved Welsh Corgi, Funa.
Enjoy this spirited Brut Rosé with one of two French breakfast options available until noon seven days a week at the tasting room. Both are served with a glass of the Rosemarie & Funa Brut Rosé and tea or coffee. Choose between a freshly baked croissant served with cheese and jam at R120 or smoked trout ribbons, dill and lemon crème fraîche at R140.
The Rosemarie & Funa Brut Rosé MCC is available for purchase at a cellar-door price of R250 per bottle.
